A tale in itself
I’ve been a listener of this podcast since the third or fourth episode. Listening to the show grow and change over the years has given me a lot of introspection into my own life. Tanner is a very down to earth host who can provide wisdom and tough love in equal measure. This is NOT a Broicism podcast, and you will find no sigma male grindset topics. Approach with an open mind about what you might even consider Western philosophy, and you will be sure to pick up points of consideration that will give you the tools you need to make the changes you want. 5 out of 5 podcast media groups.

Wonderful Listening
10/10 clear and worth listening to in a world of chaos.

Full of Value
Practical Stoicism is a bridge to an understanding we could use a great deal more of today. By listening to the explanations, translations and understandings of Mr. Campbell, I have found that the greater Understandings in this philosophy are so much easier to connect with. This philosophy is an active study in “being good” and this podcast makes it extremely accessible.

A great learning tool.
Tanner does a great job granting a deep and in-depth perspective to the Stoic canon. He can be a little heavy handed with the atheism, but I don’t think it detracts. He is a wonderful caretaker, curator, and translator of the Stoics and what they stood for. He makes the work digestible and approachable for any person. If you’re seeking to deepen your understanding of this wonderful and ancient philosophy, this is likely the best podcast out there.

Thought Provoking, Yet Balanced
Excellent Presentation; a well thought out blend of breaking Stoicism down Barney style, and extrapolating the intent of the concepts to apply them to modern life.

Great podcast on Stoicism
Highly recommended when you are interested in Stoicism. Tanner discusses Stoic philosophy in an accessible way using the writing of Marcus Aurelius and, if you go back a bit, also Seneca and Epictetus. He also picks topics or discusses listener questions. With his lovely voice and humour it’s always lovely and informative to listen to and learn how to work on being a better person, from a Stoic perspective.

A Good Podcast, Shame about the Ads
I am one of the few women who listen to this. I am familiar with CBT, and I find similarities. I enjoy the practical element to this. I admit the ads are annoying, which is why I do not rate this a 5/5. I know you need to make money to keep this going full time but somehow it doesn’t feel very stoic to have to adhere to capitalistic pressure. I have little income, so I do not subscribe. Anyway, I still enjoy the program and I think you can reach more women perhaps by including a few of them on your podcasts. Do you know of any female-identifying speakers who you can interview or provide thoughts? Now that you have the revenue, it may be something to invest in. Also, think about extending beyond the binary and look at other identities/cultures who can provide insight for your listeners. — Updated to 5/5 since this was last written. Still not a fan of the ads but the content is much better.

Great Stoicism channel
I like the way he relates things back to current life and his own experiences. He works through translations and explains the differences in them.

Worthy of your time. Love it!
Wonderful, Engaging, Insightful! Plus just a really good Stoicism show!

A perfect dose of Stoicism to start my day
Easy to understand and is true to the original teachings.

Respect ✊
Realest Stoic podcast out there

A great companion on the Stoic journey
I’m going through one Marcus Aurelius meditation daily, making my own notes and conclusions, and then listening to Tanners take. It’s really an invaluable companion, made even more valuable by his use of a different translation than I’m reading. I’m excited to go back into the archives, listening to this is a great part of a Stoic morning routine.

Simple practical comfortable
Tanner, you are appreciated and the work you do matters!

this is the one
I went through so many scowling, stern looking, self serving “stoic” podcasters before finding Tanner, and his show is stellar. What a compassionate, self-effacing, knowledgeable and genuine person! I admire his honest approach to sharing and teaching, and his care in encouraging women to suspend judgment of some of the [ancient] language of the meditations and discourses in favor of hearing the roots of the lessons was greatly appreciated. I have been a great fan of Epictetus since my undergraduate days a thousand years ago and am so delighted for the revival of my interests in all things stoic.

Wonderful stuff
I enjoy this every morning. I listen an episode a day. Sometimes the same one if I feel I need to hear it again. Sets me up with a good attitude for the day and I must say I find it very helpful. Such an enjoyable presenter. Five stars +.

Great podcast!
It had helped me a lot, and if your interested at all in Stoicism, this is a must to listen to.

Excellent
Just discovered this and looking forward to new episodes
New to Stoicism. Just started the podcast and I am finding that so much of it can be applied to my everyday life! Thanks Tanner! And great job!!

Helped get me back into stoicism
Had taken a break from daily research and listening to things about stoicism. but then I found this pod cast and have used it to revisit the reason why I love this philosophy.

Excellent
Excellent, articulate and immensely helpful !

Excellent podcast on Stocism
Having gotten even further through this podcast, I thought I'd return to update my review and say that it has only gotten better over time. Tanner started off reading through Meditations and adding his own commentary, then later started gradually introducing Seneca and Epictetus (if you don't know who they are yet, don't worry, Tanner introduces them when it makes sense to). Tanner experimented and learned over time. He tried at one point to put something out every day and collaborate with other podcasters and Stoic academics, but listened to feedback and scaled it back to something more manageable. I've listened through to the beginning of 2024 so far, and up to this point Tanner has interviewed a lot of interesting and quite well known Stoic authors like Donald J. Robertson and Kai Whiting, which has been fantastic to listen to. I've listened to Robertson's books on Audible too thanks to this introduction. There is a Patreon and free Discord community, though I haven't taken part in either, sounds great and I'm sure would be worth it if you really get into the philosophy. Tanner just seems like a genuinely nice guy. Tanner is about to take a paternity break (congrats Tanner!) so now would be a great time to catch up if you're just discovering this podcast.

How to be a good human
This podcast (I should say Tanner himself) presents Stoicism in a way that is incredibly useable. I enjoy learning about philosophy in general, however this podcast is not about studying the philosophy. This podcast will guide you on how to actually use the philosophy and how to become a good person, which I feel I am becoming.

Best show
So thoughtful and insightful- I love this show

Episode Request
Not sure if this has been recorded already, but an episode on stoicism if you’re feeling sick or dealing with other ailments would be helpful to learn more about.

Forgiveness
This episode is why I enjoy Tanner’s show so much. It focuses on a valid concern for everyday day people in our every day lives. Not from an academic standpoint, but from a *practical* one. Nobody is a Sage, nobody is perfect, and that forgiveness, while perhaps not explicitly defined by ancient Stoics, is something we can infer from the teachings in general. Lovely episode Tanner, well done.

Digestible
Practical and useful ideas to adapt to my own life’s journey. Thank you.

Host is very supportive and communicative
The host of the show Tanner was extremely helpful when I was subscribing to the show. The podcast is a good mix of philosophical ideas with meaningful application to modern life. I highly recommend taking advantage of his lifetime membership currently being offered.

Thank you Tanner!
I really like how Tanner has put together and interpreted these ancient stoic ideas and explains it in a practical point of view which. I am 23 years old this podcast has really helped me develop as an individual and has helped me through my tough times.

Practical Infotainment
Been listening for a month now, I guess. It is interesting, entertaining, and enjoyable to listen to while working, driving, and other tasks. Thanks for all the hard work, Tanner!
