Realest Stoic podcast out there

A great companion on the Stoic journey
I’m going through one Marcus Aurelius meditation daily, making my own notes and conclusions, and then listening to Tanners take. It’s really an invaluable companion, made even more valuable by his use of a different translation than I’m reading. I’m excited to go back into the archives, listening to this is a great part of a Stoic morning routine.

Simple practical comfortable
Tanner, you are appreciated and the work you do matters!

this is the one
I went through so many scowling, stern looking, self serving “stoic” podcasters before finding Tanner, and his show is stellar. What a compassionate, self-effacing, knowledgeable and genuine person! I admire his honest approach to sharing and teaching, and his care in encouraging women to suspend judgment of some of the [ancient] language of the meditations and discourses in favor of hearing the roots of the lessons was greatly appreciated. I have been a great fan of Epictetus since my undergraduate days a thousand years ago and am so delighted for the revival of my interests in all things stoic.

Wonderful stuff
I enjoy this every morning. I listen an episode a day. Sometimes the same one if I feel I need to hear it again. Sets me up with a good attitude for the day and I must say I find it very helpful. Such an enjoyable presenter. Five stars +.

Great podcast!
It had helped me a lot, and if your interested at all in Stoicism, this is a must to listen to.

Excellent
Just discovered this and looking forward to new episodes
New to Stoicism. Just started the podcast and I am finding that so much of it can be applied to my everyday life! Thanks Tanner! And great job!!

Helped get me back into stoicism
Had taken a break from daily research and listening to things about stoicism. but then I found this pod cast and have used it to revisit the reason why I love this philosophy.

Excellent
Excellent, articulate and immensely helpful !

Excellent podcast on Stocism
Having gotten even further through this podcast, I thought I'd return to update my review and say that it has only gotten better over time. Tanner started off reading through Meditations and adding his own commentary, then later started gradually introducing Seneca and Epictetus (if you don't know who they are yet, don't worry, Tanner introduces them when it makes sense to). Tanner experimented and learned over time. He tried at one point to put something out every day and collaborate with other podcasters and Stoic academics, but listened to feedback and scaled it back to something more manageable. I've listened through to the beginning of 2024 so far, and up to this point Tanner has interviewed a lot of interesting and quite well known Stoic authors like Donald J. Robertson and Kai Whiting, which has been fantastic to listen to. I've listened to Robertson's books on Audible too thanks to this introduction. There is a Patreon and free Discord community, though I haven't taken part in either, sounds great and I'm sure would be worth it if you really get into the philosophy. Tanner just seems like a genuinely nice guy. Tanner is about to take a paternity break (congrats Tanner!) so now would be a great time to catch up if you're just discovering this podcast.

How to be a good human
This podcast (I should say Tanner himself) presents Stoicism in a way that is incredibly useable. I enjoy learning about philosophy in general, however this podcast is not about studying the philosophy. This podcast will guide you on how to actually use the philosophy and how to become a good person, which I feel I am becoming.

Best show
So thoughtful and insightful- I love this show

Episode Request
Not sure if this has been recorded already, but an episode on stoicism if you’re feeling sick or dealing with other ailments would be helpful to learn more about.

Forgiveness
This episode is why I enjoy Tanner’s show so much. It focuses on a valid concern for everyday day people in our every day lives. Not from an academic standpoint, but from a *practical* one. Nobody is a Sage, nobody is perfect, and that forgiveness, while perhaps not explicitly defined by ancient Stoics, is something we can infer from the teachings in general. Lovely episode Tanner, well done.

Digestible
Practical and useful ideas to adapt to my own life’s journey. Thank you.

Host is very supportive and communicative
The host of the show Tanner was extremely helpful when I was subscribing to the show. The podcast is a good mix of philosophical ideas with meaningful application to modern life. I highly recommend taking advantage of his lifetime membership currently being offered.

Thank you Tanner!
I really like how Tanner has put together and interpreted these ancient stoic ideas and explains it in a practical point of view which. I am 23 years old this podcast has really helped me develop as an individual and has helped me through my tough times.

Practical Infotainment
Been listening for a month now, I guess. It is interesting, entertaining, and enjoyable to listen to while working, driving, and other tasks. Thanks for all the hard work, Tanner!

Great Segway into Stoicism
I have been listening to the podcast the last few months, I started from the first episode and have been working my way through. Tanner does an amazing job here, if you are curious on stoicism or want to dive in deeper, this is the podcast to listen to 🙂

7th meditation book 2
Loving the podcast so far. Have got up to the 7th meditation of book 2, and the 7th resonates so much that I have played it 3 times back to back. Please keep up the good work. Much appreciated. Neil, aged 60 from Sheffield, England.

Best Stoic Podcast
I am hooked, so easy to listen and understand. I have shared and continue to share this fantastic podcast, this is an experience. Please continue making stoicism available to any level of education. Thank you
12 episodes in and I really enjoy it.

I could listen to Tanner all day…
Listening to Tanner’s interpretations of stoic texts has helped me reframe my life. I feel more capable when it comes to setting goals, overcoming challenges, and pursuing meaningful work. I far prefer Tanner’s solo episodes to his more recent ones with Kai (or pretty much anyone else for that matter). Tanner is such a clear thinker that contributions from others tend to muddy the waters, in my opinion. I’m not surprised he’s trying to bring others on board as the podcast grows, but he hasn’t found a partner equal to him yet.

Shocked a Bit
I do love this podcast but was shocked by Tanner’s talk about communism as something that just hasn’t been done right. I respectfully disagree as there are certain things by nature that are just wrong and can never be righted by human execution. Rape doesn’t work for the victim not because the rapist didn’t execute it properly, but by the very nature of its design it can never work for the victim. Ever wonder why communism doesn’t work and the horrors it does to the victims? Communism by nature is evil…it is not designed to work for the victims…and no matter who tries to execute it and how…it can only leave behind (as history shows) horrible crimes, injustices, pains, and suffering to humanity. So I still rate this podcast well overall…but Tanner please read more on communism, Marxism, etc.
It is very practical and had changed my life around. I went from a hedonistic nihilist to a decent human being and is struggling on the path of prokopton. Thank you so much for making this podcast. It has really help me not escape reality anymore and to live life.

Great insight but Kai is pretentious
So much better than the sophistry professed by Ryan Holiday. Not life hacks, but actually reading of texts. I really like going on the journey with Tanner. Unfortunately Kai is too much for me. And he shows up far more than I enjoy.
