Tanner took on a hard topic today and did it well. That is how things like marijuana or alcohol etc. mesh with Stoic principles. Personally I find that things like this or any other addiction that takes away from being present to be counter to my Stoic practice. They can at times control and rob us of the moment or let us escape dealing with something that we really should address in order to live a fuller life.
Part of my practice is to pursue and try to manage the triggers in my life that can make me react in way that is not beneficial. I use Stoicism and meditation as a way to seek greater control over myself and my mind. I don’t always succeed but as Tanner notes, there aren’t too many if any sages out there.
